Preventing Stomach Gas
Here's How To Prevent Stomach Gas
To avoid discomfort, pain or embarrassment that results from gas in the stomach - or farther down the intestinal
tract - here are some quick tips.
Avoid aerophagia as much as possible. Aerophagia is the act of swallowing air. If you gulp your food, chew a lot
of gum, or drink liquids quickly, you're probably swallowing air at the same time. This air collects as gas in your
stomach, and it won't just go away. Most of it's going to have to come out one end of your body or the other - and
either can cause embarrassment.
Smoking causes you to swallow air, in addition to all it's more serious dangers.
Even if you eat slowly, you may not be able to avoid a gas buildup in your stomach. A lot depends on what you
eat.
The foods below, some of which may be very healthy for you otherwise, can cause gas:
- baked beans
- dry beans like soy and lima,
- bananas.
- broccoli,
- cabbage,
- cauliflower,
- cheese, milk,
- collard greens,
- deep fried foods,
- fatty foods,
- heavy cream sauce,
- ice cream,
- raisins.
Finally, keep in mind that certain prescription medications may cause stomach gas. If you're taking a
prescription medication, be sure you talk to your doctor before taking an over-the-counter gas relief product.
