Stomach Problems from Alaska Peas
People in Alaska should boil fresh Alaska peas before eating them, according to the Alaska Division
of Health and Human Services, due to possible stomach problems.
An outbreak of campylobacter appears to be linked to eating uncooked peas which have been grown and
produced by Mat-Valley Peas in Palmer.
Symptoms of the stomach illness develop two to five days after exposure. These symptoms include
-
abdominal pain,
-
diarrhea,
-
fever,
-
nausea,
-
vomiting
-
general weakness.
Most people recover without treatment.
Health officials recommend that anyone who has eaten fresh Alaska peas and is experiencing symptoms
should drink plenty of fluids and contact their doctor.
