Stomach Ulcers and Famotidine
According to recent news reports, the results of a new British study finds shows that taking a certain drug will
help prevent stomach ulcers and stomach trouble in people taking low-dose aspirin to reduce the risk of
heart attack.
The drug famotidine, and according to the study, and it was used in a phase III trial that included 404 patients
taking 75 milligrams to 325 milligrams of aspirin a day.
Only 3 percent of the patients taking famotidine in the study developed stomach ulcers, but 15 percent of those
taking a placebo developed an ulcer. Those taking the placebo developed more than 30 times as many duodenal ulcers
as those taking famotidine.
